Yardley, PA, October 18, 2017 — The Annual International Conference & Career Fair of Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), the insurance industry’s premier collegiate talent pipeline, hosted the Global Dive In Festival for the second consecutive year as one of only five US locations in Dallas, Texas September 28-30, 2017. Dive In 2017 has been in full force in 17 countries and 32 cities, creatively highlighting the business case for different perspectives and inclusive working cultures.

In a collaborative effort with Dive In Dallas partners GIS, Jacobson, WING, AIG, Aon, CNA, DLA Piper, GammaSAID, ISC, Travelers, and XL Catlin, Dive In programming at the Conference drew over 350 total participants, and consisted of five provocative and interactive sessions:

  • Your Early Career at AIG, presented by Walter Hurdle, Global Head of Inclusion and Early Career Sourcing with AIG;
  • Insurance Innovation Inclusion – The New Culture, Metrics to Measure Success, presented by Barbara Bufkin, Executive Head of Business Development with Assurant and newly appointed GIS Trustee;
  • How Do You Find Your Unique Place in the World?, presented by Fred Colon, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer and Head of Organizational Effectiveness with Travelers;
  • Humans of GIS, presented by GammaSAID Council Member Clevon Cunningham, a current student at St. John’s University, and GammaSAID Council co-Chair Cameron Alford, Risk & Insurance Coordinator with Evonik Corporation and a 2016 graduate of Butler University;
  • Speed Networking, presented by local Dive In Dallas partners, which drew over 40 industry professionals and 140 students.

The Conference itself, which is made possible by support from Sponsors and Sustaining Partners, convened more than 550 top risk management, insurance, and actuarial science students and advisors from GIS chapters at 55 colleges and universities across North America with nearly 300 industry professionals for three days of intensive exposure to the industry: a 64-exhibitor career fair, educational sessions, leadership seminars, networking events, on-site first-round interviews, and programming related to the many diverse career paths available to these future leaders. GIS carries out Dive In-related programming year-round through its GammaSAID (Solutions for Authenticity, Inclusion, and Diversity) Council, a student-led pioneering initiative to foster meaningful dialogue and action throughout the industry.

Because of its commitment to honing the next generation of insurance professionals, coupled with its outward-facing focus on both students and the industry, GIS is uniquely positioned to contribute to and help shape industry hot topics such as diversity and inclusion, and has asserted its position at the forefront of the talent gap conversation and the insurance careers movement. GIS creates programming and presents perspectives reflecting the interests and needs of its 4,000+ student members, who consistently report the importance of company culture as they enter the job search and recruiting process. GIS leads the insurance industry in developing and sustaining a talent pipeline, and the Annual Conference is the largest and most significant opportunity for companies to connect with top talent from multiple schools in a single setting.
